Dallas Goldtooth’s “The 1491’s” comedy troupe uses humor to reclaim their heritage (we’ll wait until the joke in their name lands for you). With a YouTube audience nearly 500,000 followers, Dallas’ sketch comedy is opening a conversation about what it means to be an American Indian today. At the same time, Dallas works his advocacy through the Indigenous Environmental Network. Their mission: “Protect the Sacredness of Earth Mother from contamination & exploitation by Respecting and Adhering to Indigenous Knowledge and Natural Law”.

 

Dallas’ Bio:

Dallas Goldtooth (Mdewakanton Dakota and Dine) is a the Keep it in the Ground Organizer for the Indigenous Environmental Network. He is a Dakota cultural/language teacher. He is a co-founder of the Indigenous comedy group, The 1491s. He is also a poet, traditional artist, powwow emcee, and comedian.
